Elegant carriage of the body with graceful coordination,
taking hands and releasing hands, might seem frivolus
gestures, but with the emphasis in Quintilian on gestures
such as eyes, head motions, neck positioning, facial
expressions, and especially hand gestures, these
gestures are hardly frivolous. Such gestures having
been adopted among courtiers, dance gestures using
the hands becomes an affair of state: state idiology.
